Default perfect! almost..

I've finally found the topic and niche market that will be the basis of my first site, however the domain name that I'd like is taken. What a bummer.

So naturally, I went to the site with the domain name that I wanted and found that it was full of links, including one that offers you to buy the domain name. Upon clicking on this, it takes me to a site called buydomains.com and tells me the domain name price is $2,688.

Isn't this technically domain squatting? Any thoughts or ideas on how to get around?

There isnt anything you can do. You can either pay for the domain or find a new one. Have a look at www.whois.sc put in that domain you wanted and it will give you information on when the domain expires, who owns it, other domains for sale like it (.com / .net / .org etc) and also auctions related to the domain.

Default oh well

Thanks for the link, that's a cool resource. I went and had a look, but think I will just let that one go and use my secondary.

Thanks again for the help!

Default Don't sweat the small stuff

Concentrate on your concept and don't sweat the domain name. I had my first one almost a full year.It was catchy, well a least to me anyway. I rated well on the searches with it and everything was fine until It was time to evolve pay pal. The site somehow wasn't able to apply it so I left them. It was cheaper to drop the domain name I used and chose a new one. I had nothing to loose and everything to gain. The new domain names cheaper as well as the site host and pay pal now functions as well. Best of all my search results are even better now and I don't pay for better placement. So you go girl... Live your dream!!!

Default :)

Thank you! I've finally settled in on my domain name (I took two just in case!), but I'm ready to focus on my content now.

I'm glad things worked out with the domain switch! Best of luck with everything, hope to see you around on the boards
