Smile Help with Domain name pls

If I already have a business name should that become my Domain name ?
I am working through the SBI video Demo, just kind of trying to take it all in at the moment.

Not necessarily. You should choose a name that has the keywords you want to target. So if you are doing a site on dog training, a good domain would be dog-training-tips.com for example.

Hi Star,

First of all good luck with your new website

As far as your domain name goes if your business is a local well known business I would use your business name. Otherwise I would go with a keyword rich domain name descriptive of your website content. You can also use both if you want to.

I also see that you are using SBI to build your website. I use SBI for one of my sites also. It's an overwhelming experience to develop a website with SBI, however it is well worth it. You will learn a lot, I did, and I had developed several sites previously.

Make sure to use the SBI forums also, there is a ton of good information there. Just don't use the forum search it is not working right and you will never find what you are looking for.

Good Luck,

Good Luck,
No kidding about their search feature. Geez!

But those forums are a gold mind especially if you're just stating out. I send my friends who just bought SBI there all the time to get help from seasoned SBI users. They have some great advice and it's nice to get different perspectives from customers who have been there and "bought the T-shirt" so to speak.

Even though I've had great success with my SBI site, I don't use all the tools like many of the people who frequent their forums. I sort of cheated and rushed through the process since I had experience building sites prior to buying SBI!. (shame, shame)

But I agree with Greg, unless you are trying to build a local brand in your area then you should go with the keywords.

Smile BUY EM ALL!

Star, what I would do is get your business name even if your not going to use it. Just to make sure no one else gets it. Also if you can get releated keyword domain names. And have them all redirected to the same site.

When your working with business domain names or niche names you need to look a little outside the box. Simply for the reason, if your business becomes big you dont want other companies getting them domains.

Example, I have a red sox fan site. Its one site on a .net but I really have a total of 14 domains related to it. Simply because I dont want others to get there hands on them. But dont go crazy like I did, Im sitting on 27 domains and Im not finished yet. haha!!

Smile Oh Gosh Rooney !

Ok - I get it thanks.

Thanks guys for your advice - I will get into those SBI forums.

Yes it is a bit overwhelming but I am grateful for Lisa and you guys as I did not realize that so much was involved in creating a 'successful' web site.

It really depends on the goal of your site.

It's good to include your major keywords in your domain name if you can, it helps with the search engines :-)

It's worth taking some extra time to get the right one. I chose the wrong one and had to change at a later date, and asked my links to change, it was awkward
