I recently learned that there is a domain name that's very similar to mine. My domain name is in my sig, and the similar one just doesn't have "best" in front of it. Do you think it's necessary to change my domain so that it's more unique?

the more unique, the better. If you are looking for lots of hits, I think that the best way to go is create a name that people will remeber. The best are short, and witty.
that way people are going to remember the page.

I looked at both sites (yours and the other one). The both kind of look similar, so i would suggest to give your down a unique name which reflects your site overall. I think it be good idea to add some catching words in your domain like
baby-shower-fun.com
baby-bath-time.com
these are just some suggestions. hope it helps you gather some ideas.
