Default Domain and hosting from 2 different places

I just got a free domain name from register and I bought hosting service at godaddy. What do I do to make it work?

For those interested, to get a free 1year domain name:
go to google, search register.com domain promo 1 year free
click on the register.com link

Not much in life is free (read the small print).

I'm very wary of "FREE!!" domains. I tried it once and found I had to use the services of the host that supplied the domain name or pay 150 bucks to move it.

To get your site to work you will have get your GoDaddy "nameservers". They may be listed on the setup email you received from GoDaddy or somewhere in your GoDaddy a/c.

You then log into your Register.com account and look for something that says "DNS settings or "Change Nameservers". Then change the nameservers to the ones you got from GoDaddy.

Regards

Bob

Here's what I did:
I went to godaddy-> offsite dns -> add offsite dns

Then I went to register and changed the name server to match godaddy.

When I click on "All My Domains" it says I have none, but when I click on "Offsite DNS" I got the domain I wanted, it is unchecked, and clickable. I don't know what to do to make it go to the my domains folder or make it work. Please help.

Most of the time, name services are provided through email after signup. Check your confirmation email and check those vital details. On register.com, you just have to access the dns setup of your domain and apply those name servers provided by godaddy.

EDIT

I am RETARDED! I've been looking at my domain manager and asking why it's not showing. Turns out, I haven't set up the hosting account yet.

Its not a good day for me =/

What should you do? Point the nameservers to those of Godaddy in your domain control panel and toss up wordpress blog or which ever you want in your hosting account. I don't know if it (register.com) is different from other domain registrars.

And i l don't think the offer is still available at register.com, even if it does, I suggest you don't go for it. It is because the renewal fee from the next year at register.com is $35 or so. You may be able to transfer it to some other domain registrar, but you have to make sure and confirm it with them if you can transfer the domain to elsewhere within one year.

By the way, How is Godaddy web hosting?, I hear (and see) it's not good!

You get a free domain for 1 year from register.com but after that you have to pay $35 to renew which is quite expensive.
