Default is a .info domain name important to search engines?

This is a rather odd question but since A poplar hosting company has ".info" domain names on sale for $1.99, my curiosity has been effected.

Do search engines consider a .info name to be important?

Do they carry more weight than, let's say, a .blogger or .wordpress sub domain name.

What if I had a nitch about red wagons. Would I be better off with littleredwagons.wordpress.com or domainname.info as far as the search engines are concearned?

Would I get better short term results using the sub domain blogs with high page rank or by using a .info name.

Hi Chris, I don't think any answer you will get for that question here will be completely accurate.

No.. .com's and .net's are a lot better.
A subdomain on a popular site will also do better than .info's. Of course with useful content .info's can rank well too but it takes a lot more work.
Another thing you should watch out for is that they may be cheap now, but renewing them may cost you as much as a regular .com/.net/.org.

Thanks for your comments...just wanted to say that I have decided to not purchase the .info. The more I started thinking about it, my moms words came to me. "You get what you pay for honey."

I think I will just keep feeding my current sites with content for now. I have enough on my hands.

You made the right choice. All domain name extensions are the same to all s.e.'s what matters is content,, keywords, and keywords in the domain name. It doesn't matter if it's a wordpress blog or website.

However if you would have purchased the .info name and started a niche site with say....little-red-wagon.info instead of little-red-wagon.com Most casual internet users, surfers, or friends and relatives would remember .com NOT .info

And this is one reason why .com extension will cost a little more than all those other .info, .tv, .org, etc.....

Paul

p.s. Moms are almost always right!

This is brilliant input. I had not thought about that possibility.

It makes perfect sense though. My church uses a .info and I always get mixed up when I am sending someone an email because I can't remember which domain ending to use.

Well to my knowledge not all sub domains are listed in google. So I dont think .wordpress would hold more weight then .info. But this is my opinion please correct me if I am wrong.

Cheers
Cody
