Where is the best place to register a domain name? I'm in the UK. I've also heard bad things about godaddy, are they trustworthy?
    Thanks!

To purchase a domain without hosting, you can go for any domain registration.

If you need a stable hosting, then you can refer to ICCAN accredited registrars. To become a domain registrars, the company need to fulfill lot of requirement. That is why, most of the popular hosting provider also a domain registrar.

You can refer to Icann http://www.icann.org/en/registrars/accredited-list.html

Alt Communications - seo company malaysia; AWEPay - merchant gateway

GoDaddy is good. I have 32 domains registered with it. The best part of GoDaddy is you can easily find its discount coupons (for up to 30-50% discount on all types of extensions).

But tens of thousands of domain names have shifted away from GoDaddy in the last 2 days because of their stand on SOPA Act 2011 in the US. Just thought to tell you.

Other good alternatives are Namecheap and register.com. I do not have any experience with these two. I would like people with any experience with either of the two to chip in and help.

    i hope it was helpful.

I think Godaddy and namecheaps are the best for only domain name registration because you can easily find coupon code(as webopreneur said) but if you are also looking for hosting thn...I think Hostgator or Bluehost are the best available options.

If you like GoDaddy, try DomainCheapsters. GoDaddy is the parent company so they have all the same features but are a few bucks cheaper. As far as I am aware it is a site Brian G. Johnson (super affiliate) set up so he could get domains for himself at the cheapest rates, I have always used it with no problems. Like previous commentors have mentioned, go with a separate hosting company - I would always choose one that has cPanel for ease of set up, Hostgator or Hostmonster are good

Instead you can have a try with hioxindia, one of the premium quality domain registrars in India. They have numerous clients globally and are trusted for their service too. If you are about to register your domains, then you can do it at the lowest cost here.

Godaddy get mixed reviews, but in my opinion, they are good enough as a domain registrar. Namecheap is another cheap alternative as mentionedby lot of people. Actually any ICANN approved domin registrar could be good enough and you could go with the cheapest one without much issues. Whether you pay $35 or $7, you get the same thing!

I have registered many domains with Namecheap and they give free domain privacy Free With New Registrations and Transfers, but for the first year only. They are still much cheaper than Godaddy after the first year. I especially like their pricing for domain transfer (with the coupon code).

I recommend Go Daddy, they are very good and have a lot of sales (for example: get up to 5 new .COMs, $5.99 per year for the 1st year)

I have dealt with Godaddy.com in the past for myself and for certain customers of mine. Unfortunately, the experiences of my customers were not as good as yours. Godaddy has traditionally made it extremely difficult for non-tech savvy people to leave towards another registrar and even then, they make it difficult requiring you to call and wait on hold to get an EPP transfer code. Also, I have heard accounts that they have removed rights to domain names for no reason at all (literally, no reason was given and the account was closed)

So, I moved myself and almost a thousand domains (mine and my customers) to Register.com. Their service was good but lacked the total control I wanted and their control panel was less than friendly meaning I couldn't train my customers to be self sufficient, meaning I had to do everything for them.

Then, I found Namecheap.com and frankly have never looked back. They have very good support (.ca names can be a b***h to register sometimes) and have the best domain control panel I have ever used. Also, being first off the main trunk of eNom, any DNS changes are usually in effect minutes after changes are made (never more than 10, sometimes as little as 2). Their prices are very good and offer a range of services. The only thing that is not that good is their domain hosting but I use hostGator for that.

    I hope this helps,

Godaddy has been fine for me.
They try and do alot of upselling, so you just have to click a few times to bypass these upsell pages!

Some are ok with godaddy and some are not for there own reasons. 1st year is always a good deal the following year a higher price and most don’t offer free whois privacy service so you need to pay extra for that per a domain.

I use Dynadot personally. They have always be fast to get the name registered and helpful with any questions. They also offer a degrading cash back deal for 5 days after your reg a domain name. This has saved me during some late night domain name buying sprees when my spelling was blurry.

Their prices are on the low side like $9.95 for a .com. I have used GoDaddy before, but over the last year, I have read about so bad experiences.

One point I would mention is; do not get your domain name registered through your website hosting company. Always keep them separate.

    Just my 2 cents,
    Steve

I have only had experience with bluehost and so far so good. They are very helpful whenever I call them with questions in regards to hosting my wordpress blog. The one thing I do hate about them is that they don't give you the option of using another blog publishing service other than wordpress. I was interested in blogger at one point.
