domain resellers - i'm ready
Hi all,
Lisa, my name is Allan Parche and we met at the Affiliate Summit in January in Vegas. I have just joined www.ultimatedomainresellers.com under you but I have a couple of questions about reselling domains that wasn't clear to me.
Do I earn renewals on the domains and hosting or is it just first time? The site wasn't very clear on that part.
Also, is there a way to not offer certain products? There are some I don't want on my store because I don't want my customers confused and signing up for things they don't need.
Anxious to get started. I have about 50 people I'm getting ready to build sites for so I figured I'd become a reseller so they can buy their domains and hosting through me so I earn commissions on the design and their domains and hosting.
Thanks!

Hey webdesigner, I remember you! You were moving to Philly right? How'd that go?
You do earn on all renewals and not just the domains and web hosting but any product that has a renewal fee.
Yes, you can choose to not offer certain products. Login to the reseller control center and under "Products and Pricing" select "Product Offerings". From there you can uncheck any products you don't want to offer.
BUT I will warn you that WWD does a ton of upselling during checkout so even if you haven't selected certain products for your store, they may still be offered to your customers. (Not sure I like that feature and I hope they are working to correct that.)
For example, I don't want to offer the Traffic Facts product because I am all for do-it-yourself self search engine optimization and not buying some submission product. So I chose not to offer that yet it is still promoted during checkout. Although I must say the product has gotten so much better than when they first launched. They do encourage customers to submit themselves and work on building content. I must've complained enough.

Lisa!
Thanks much. Yes I am loving Philly. It's a bit of a change from Milwaukee. You headed to Affiliate Summit East next month? I'm gonna pass this year and probably go in January.
Appreciate the domain name reseller help. I've already had 7 orders and I'm on my way! Someone ordered $300+ worth of domains, hosting, and add-ons. Kewl! Look out! LOL Yeah that's a bummer about the upsells for products you don't want to sell. Hopefully they'll perfect that.

Nope. Not going to this Summit. I have a mini VC planned around that time so I am not going to be able to make it. But I may go to the one after that.
Glad you got your reseller biz up and running. A year from now you'll be smiling even more when those residuals from the renewals start coming in. Are you planning on building a site to promote your reseller store or are you just going to promote it offline with your existing web design biz?

Right now I'm just promoting it offline since that's where I do most of my promotions for my biz. Haven't gotten the hang of this online stuff yet. I'm not much of a writer/marketer. But things are going good offline! I got three more domain orders last night! I often why more designers don't resell domains. If you have a large clientele you can clean up getting your clients to register their domains and pay for their hosting through your own reseller site.

VC as in a meeting with some venture capitalists? Pretty Exciting!
Lisa, do you have a local angels organization? Have you looked into them over a VC firm? I would highly recommend angels vs VCs, but of course it all depends on their interests and what you want to do.

LOL, Sherif. We're just talking about reselling domain names and hosting. ultimatedomainresellers.com is just my re-branded reseller store (sponsored by GoDaddy). A very lucrative business if you have the right audience. I've been trying to get my friends I know in Web Design to do the same thing. Instead of having their customers register their domains on their own, they can sign up as a reseller, set their own prices and tell their customers to buy from their site where they earn lifetime residuals as long as their customer keep their sites up.
It's so lucrative because you earn residuals. So if you get 30 people in a month to sign up for a web hosting plan at $6/month and you earn a $2 profit on each customer, that's $60 every month from those same 30 people and the income snowballs over time. It's been my highest earning program for years and the main reason I was able to quit my job last year. But you have to have the right kind of site/audience.
You set your prices, determine your profits and GoDaddy/Wild West Domains handles all the orders, support, provides the website etc. It really is a turnkey business on autopilot if you can drive the traffic.
No, I meant VC as in "vacation" at Hot Springs.

wow! for days i didn't pay attention to this thread because i had no idea what your guys were talking about..lol. Well, i still don't. Still unclear about this domain/hosting reselling thing. But sounds like something i can make use of.
I do freelancing on the side, that is, build websites for customers. I also own few domain names and hosting accounts which i don't use and wouldn't mind selling.
Is this reseller thing something i can apply here to my situation?
Lisa, where can i read up on this. I interested in finding out what this and how it works?
Meanwhile, im gonna check out your ultimatedomainresellers.com site.

Webdev,
Domain and hosting reselling is my #1 income source and the ultimatedomainresellers.com site should pretty much explain it all. You pay $69/year (or $169, depending on the reseller package) and they give you a reseller site that looks pretty much like GoDaddy's site except you can set your own prices and determine your profit etc. You earn commissions when your visitors buy domains and hosting and it's lucrative because you earn residuals on the hosting and domain renewals.
It's a great monetization solution for anyone who targets webmasters or soon-to-be webmasters.
