I've thought about joining one of these reseller programs just to do some ppc ads but the domain name market is so saturated for pay per click that I thought better of it. But I can see why a site like yours Lisa could clean up on such a program. It's a perfect match.

Hey Lisa,
Have you ever run a sale on your domains? I noticed that reseller feature today where you can set the start and end date of the sale which I think is pretty cool. Just wondering if you've done it and if so does it display that it is actually sale on your storefront or does it just display the lower price?

I have never activated any of those sales, and that's mainly because most of the products I sell have recurring fees (monthly, yearly, etc.) and the sale only covers the first year, not the renewals. Unfortunately that is not made very clear on the storefront.
So let's say your hosting price for your sale is set for $2 off, that's only for the first month. The storefront doesn't explain this so when your customers get their charge for the recurring months it will be at the regular price. I feel that's a bit sneaky and don't want to mislead my customers.

If you want a domain reseller account, buy a reseller (web hosting) account at hostgator or westnic or somewhere similar.
They will setup a enom domain name reseller account for free. Usually, enom charges $500 for this alone.
You can sell both domain names and web hosting at the same time. You can set your own prices like $10 for the domain name, etc.

Thanks ncaditya. I'm pretty happy with the reseller program Lisa and I are in and I'm already building a customer base so I'll stay with where I am.

Godaddy
I use Godaddy for buying all my domains. I have my account with them, only it never occured to me to signup to be a reseller. I think that I looked into it a long time ago but the setup fee put me off as I thought that I could never recover the setup fee.
Do you have to sell above Godaddy's price to make any commission? Or can you price it exactly as Godaddy prices domains and still earn a commission?

You can sell pretty close to their prices. If it's higher, it's only a few cents. I made the mistake of setting mine way to high 5 years ago and it's hard to decrease them now because the renewal commissions are so nice. So if I could do it all over again I'd set them at $8 or $9 bucks.

How much commission do you earn for resellser packages? Same as normal hosting referrals? Do it also include hosting?

It's about 30% for all products and yes, hosting is included. Pretty much anything GoDaddy sells you can resell from your store and earn a commission for it. To date, I've earned commissions for shopping cart systems, copyright protection services, even extra bandwidth usage for hosting customers, you name it. They do a great job of upselling upon checkout to encourage your customers to buy other products.

If the product has recurring billing (shopping carts, hosting, domains, etc.) then you earn commissions on all renewals. The renewals are what really boost your income over time. Basically anytime your customer buys anything you earn a commission (recurring or one-time products)

Godaddy affiliate
Do you need your own domain and have to map it to your Godaddy affiliate site, or can you just use their own domain ( eg. www.godaddy.com/youraffiliateid )?
People might feel more comfortable buying domains from Godaddy as they may have heard of it rather than some new domain which I buy.

There are several ways you can do it.
They give you a unique store URL when you sign up, but it's not pretty. It's something like http://secureserver.net/something/something/something Some people just use that. But what I did is bought a domain name and setup a forward/redirect to that ugly URL so I can just use that for branding and it's an easier name to remember.

The basic difference is with the PRO, the buy rates are lower so you earn more money per sale. Not much difference other than that.
