Im just starting out in this new website business. Everything is interesting and so far I feel like Im learning a lot. Once I buy a domain name, what is the main purpose and use of it? I kind of get the idea but besides using it on Myspace, I just need help using it on other sites.

I kind of confused, but Im sure someone will understand

The main purpose of buying a domain name is because you want to have your own unique identity or presense online.

If you have a business then you will register your domain name www something dot com etc.

So the use of a domain name is basically just to estalish a brand name
name online

The biggest thing having your own domain name does for you is it gives you complete control over your own website. If you have a domain name like myspace.com/yoursite you have to use myspace tools and setup.

If you have yoursite.com you can make the site whatever you want!

like a forum, blog, or family photo album...
