Smile Transferring Content Between Websites -- Another Question!!

Here's a question I have -- Say I register a site specific domain name and a more general domain name relating to the first site.

I create and build up traffic to my site with a specific subject. Later on, I want to branch out into different topics so I transfer all my site specific information to my other general domain name. Can I do that? Does that make sense?

Ex.: I start with a site about recipes and register a specific recipe domain name but also register a general domain name too for later. After I have built up my traffic on the recipe site, I'd like to start including topics about housekeeping, decorating, gardening etc., so I'd start that on the general domain name and transfer over my all of my recipe content and put it under a recipe section under the general domain name.

I guess it would be like having a site with topics that have to do with a general theme versus having a bunch of different sites about each specific thing.

Thanks for your input!

Sure you can do it. If you're using cpanel, that function is a button within your file folders labeled download, and you can designate a folder on your hard drive where you want it downloaded to, then you only need to ftp it from the folder on your harddrive to the folder you want it to go to within your file folders on the other host/domain site.

Once you have your recipe site indexed in search engine and got traffic to that website and than you change the domain name than my understanding
is that you will have start from scratch for new domain name.
Correct me if i am wrong

yes that is true if you take down the original site, but if i'm reading this correctly, she plans to have one aggregator site where she's been building traffic to, and then create standalone niche sites, where she can feed traffic back and forth, it's actually a very good strategy because some people who are interested only in the targeted niche site may never find the aggregator site, and vice versa. This way she can build up her niche sites from the popularity of her aggregator site, but she can also feed her aggregator site to the other topics from those surfers who found her niche site. I believe she has a great idea.

Is there anything stopping you from starting both pages? You can keep them both seperate. While you are building up your traffic on your niche site, you can be building up traffic on the other site at the same time. This way you can get those just looking for your niche and those looking for the broader subject matter.

Thanks everyone for your input!

HalB: That's part of what I'm trying to decide if I should start one site now and then the other later or if I should start them together and link them.

CSS: Glad to know you think I'm on the right track! Now I just have to come up with some domain names!!
