Default Advise needed

I want to start a website which will be about design.
Designing websites, programs (applications), and pretty much that's all. (If you think there should be something else please post back or PM me).

I was thinking since my name is David S. my site name would be like DSdesign.com, although that site has been taken. Anyways, I have already contacted the owner and asked him if the site was for sale, he answered me back to go to a site where you can offer for it, haven't tho... Cash ain't here
I might later buy that site, or if you come up with a good name related to what my site's about I might go for it.
I believe in you, masters.

Thanks,
DS

Default What's a name for?

For what its worth from a business perspective: One of your best opportunities for marketing comes with your name so choose it wisely. Ask yourself questions like, "What percentage of the web site world will know who I am by seeing initials like DS or a name like David. If you name is Oprah, OK.

From the name alone would you choose to go to Jack's Motel or to Comfort Inn?

Look at Lisa's great site name, 2createawebsite.com. It tells you something about what the site contains and draws you in.

Sorry its already taken so you would have to brainstorm to find an unused one, but as an example I started off thinking about your topic and asked myself what would be a great name. My first thought, "GreatWebDesigns.com"

Good success,

James

I agree with James. People are not searching for you, they are searching for a particular product or service. Your domain name should be descriptive of your websites content.

Good Luck,

Yes, you definitely want to get those main keywords in your domain. Mine is not particularly catchy and if I could do it all over again I would have chosen something different but I'm still glad I put "create a website" in the name.

Very cool pic by the way.

I get what you're saying, but my site will be also about program developing (designing).

I think having on my site's name the "design" word would be more appropriate than using "WebDesign" or "AppDesign" cuz it's both, not only 1.

I wanted to put easy-learning words like DS because people do remember easy-short websites. I also want DS to be included on my site's name because look at stuff like iPod, iTunes... That "i" makes it a lot different, unique, unforgettable, etc.

Although, thinking on the future, when people look at my site's name in Google, they will think DS design is about the game boy thingy or stuff like that... So yeah, maybe DS on my site's name might not be the best choice.

Hmmm, still thinking of a new name.
Before I wanted the name DesignYourDreams.com but It's already in use, you know... I wanted a slogan like: You dream it, we make it.

Edit: Thanks Lisa

I agree with the others people won't search for about you information, they search fro product keywords and what you offer to them. Heres are some that i though of.

ImagineGreatDesigns.com

Quality-Designs.com

Davids-Hot-Designs.com

Davids-Quality-Designs.com

Quality-Web-Resources.com

However I think that I know where david is coming from with the catchy kind of uniqueness, I think lisa website has a bit of skill to it the '2' is her I for I-Tunes if you understand me. If you added David it also adds a little personality to your site which will boost your visitors confindence and approachability.

Good luck with your site buddy

Default why not have your name?

I think it will be good to have your name for the website, in that way there is a better chance of no one stealing your other extensions(unless of course your name is paris hilton )and it might give a personal touch.

Well, it wouldn't be my name name, only my initials DS.
Yeah I also think it gives a personal touch and would be nice .

Edit: But I'll go for the best option for my website, if not having DS is better, then no DS; or vice versa.

David,

Since your goal is to launch a site with both information on how to create your own web and app designs, what about the domain name:

CreateUrDesigns.com

It's available too!

Just a thought.

Hope this helps.

Nice one Levi .

Although I still need more and more ideas. The more the ideas I get, the better and BIG idea will pop up.

Edit:
I've been thinking. Why would I want the word "design" be in my site name if what Google searches are the top sites? The ones with Overdelivered content?
This has changed my way of thinking for the name...

What does the company name Apple gotta do with computers? Nothing! What's Pepsi? A made up name.

I wanna make my domain name as if it was a company, something easy, simple, sticky, unforgettable.

David,

Well there's millions of words out there it would be too hard for me to create a tool to magically create a great catchy unique name. However there are other methods that you might come across in seeking and obtaining your name.

Such as muddling words up together, talking to others and discussing a perhaps entertaining and funny word or phrase.

Anything that will eventually 'catch on' you can make it as personal or unpersonal as you want it doesn't have to sum up your company at all.

But do remember this one thing, companys like apple; aren't just made up of one imaginative individual surprisingly they are huge brands with thousands of employees that decision make all the time.

- But that doesn't mean you can't do it!

Good luck

Hi David,

These companies also spend millions of dollars a year in advertising to brand their names.

One of the search criteria Google uses is the domain name. Granted it is only one piece of the puzzle but my thinking is; I want as many pieces of the puzzle as I can get stacked in my favor.

Your website concept is in a very competitive field don't make more work for yourself. Choose a domain name that makes sense to both the human and search engine visitors.

Then if I choose a name for example Viwoo, then I'll be doing it incorrectly?
But Google searches the information inside the pages, right?
Then there is no problem to put only my domain name "viwoo".
Or correct me if I'm wrong.
