Default duplicate content

Hi

I have now heard and read so much about duplicate content and the penalization of Google.
Is it now true that I can sbmit exactly the same article for ezine, squidoo, hubpages and whatever (just different domains) at the same time and don't get penalized by google? So the chance to rank on the first page will still be there?
I thought that google penalizes the second article which is exatly the same as one they already have in the index...

thanks a lot for clarification

Default no penalty, not exactly...

My understanding, after reading Matthew Cutts (google guy) about this is (an oversimplification perhaps, but the basic idea):

There is no penalty for anyone.

The first copy gets the recognition.

Others get ignored.

However, my take and recommendation is this. Put only original and unique information on your site. Your personal reputation is at stake.

It is not that hard to take a major article on your site and write a similar article with the same basic content but worded somewhat differently for article publication. It probably doesn't hurt if several article sites have the same article of yours. They may give links back to you but I would think the major gain is in having your site presented to those who read the article and if you are fortunate, getting them to link to you.

Put only original and unique information on article directories and on your sites everytime, it will benefit you in the long run, there is too much duplicate out there serving no purpose. You want to offer good quality content that people will actually read, put the hard work in now to reap the benefits later, you want to stand out from the crowd.

thanks for the link.
Of course it's my content which I want to publish on different article pages, and I will rewrite them a little so I don't have 100% the same content on different domains.

Most think they are being penalized for duplicate content when they are not. Google will give credit to the first site it finds and indexes the article on. The others are given credit as well but not as much. The only time Google will penalize you for duplicate content is if your entire site is made up of duplicate content by scraping free article content and not publishing any original content.
