Post 'Quotes' site/blog content?

Hey,

I was just wondering, if i wanted to create a site/blog containing famous quotations (abt. a specific topic, etc); how do i create my content? It will be the same content (exact wordings) as displayed on other sites. I can't change the wordings since they are quotes and have to be displayed exactly as they are told. Would this be considered a violation of copyrights? Any other issues?

Thanks in advance.

You could create a separate reference page or add the reference to the footer. Normally I'm against quoting sites directly but for a quotes site this is understandable and I think if you just add a reference somewhere then you should be fine.

Lisa offers some good advice. To me there are too many quote sites of the same nature, but if you can find a way to offer them in a different light then all the better. Also, you gotta think about WHY you want to start yet another quote site. What's the purpose for it? And if you hoping to make some money off it, how would you go about monetizing the site. These, and other relevant questions need to be answered by yourself before you continue on. All the best.

Humor aside, you might note that the potential, such as it is, in such a site is inadvertently identified by CodeMonkey and JazzGuy.

You have to find that new approach, that special previously unidentified [potentially, I haven't checked] niche. And they have given it to you.

Just make it TxG's Canadian Quotes

Now, all you have to do is move to Canada (naturally required if you want any credibility).

Hmm.... I didn't consider that. I was actually thinking of creating a blog containing a collection of humorous quotes. However, i googled the phrase "funny quotes" just now and it looks like there are already many sites out there offering this kind of collection.

Time for some research i guess . I'll have to go thru some of these sites and try to identify things that they don't offer which i could in my blog.

When u say add a reference somewhere, u mean a link to the site from which i get the quotes from?
EDIT: or can i just include a disclaimer at the bottom of the page like; "all intellectual property belong to their respective owners" or sumthing like that?

Thanks for all your input guys. I appreciate it.

Default two good ways

For making a quote site unique you will need to first off write a short biography or other explanation for why their words are worth repeating. This gives you the advantage of having unique content for keyword placement and SE indexing.

Secondly; make sure when you code your page that the actual quote is contained within < blockquote > < /blockquote > [take out spaces]
That way the SE recognizes that it is duplicate without penalizing you for it.

Good luck!
