You don't need to register anywhere. The moment you create something, you're the copyright holder. Nothing can be done to prevent people stealing your content, even if you were to register it somewhere, people would still end up stealing it.

If you do want to register your work try http://creativecommons.org/

Default Yep.

Nora is right, as usual.

Years ago when the laws were different (and not so many people felt free to steal your stuff, either) I went through the formal process of copyrighting but I wouldn't bother anymore. Laws are different now. Protection is technically easier, automatic you might say, but lots of people will copy your stuff.

Nevertheless, I would put an indication of copyright with all rights reserved on my site. I think it does two things. First, it may discourage some from copying your stuff. Second, it is one way to indicate that what you have on your site is original (and of course it should be).

As Nora mentioned, you can't stop people from stealing your content. Even though your work is copyrighted, you may want to keep track of your content to see if anyone has scraped it for their own site.

Using Google alerts to do this is one method that I use to watch for duplication of my content.
