Blogger and FTP Question
I am getting ready to start FTP-ing my Blogger content to my own domain instead of blogger.com (finally! I know...) and I read that I can do all that by going to Settings and then Publishing. The only option I see is to redirect my domain name to my blog. I don't see where I setup my FTP information, etc. so I can actually publish the content to a directory on my server.
Is this option no longer available through Blogger? What am I missing here? I went to "advanced settings" and still don't see anything but help on pointing my domain to my blog. I don't want to do that. I want the content to actually sit on my server.
Heeeeeelp!

I'm not too familiar with Blogger and the FTP settings, but from what I have read, you have to use the Classic templates to use FTP.

Hey Lisa...why not go with Wordpress instead? It's very simple to install the software to your server and then all you do is work within the Wordpress CP and voila...instant blog. Let me know if i can lend a hand.

Ahhhh... I think you're right Techieguy. That must be it. Thx.
I really would like to use WordPress, jazzguy but I'm getting good traffic at my blogger blog so I was really trying to keep everything hosted there. But with all I'm hearing about WordPress, it may be worth the switch eh?

Lisa, I am thinking about doing the same for one of my blogs and was thinking of setting up a wordpress blog at my host. I was thinking there must be some way to hang on to my blogspot url and redirect that traffic to my new url.
I found this site. If you scroll down, there is some good info on FTPing and moving.

Well I've decided to make the move. I installed WP on my host today and am getting my design ready so I can import my blogger posts. So far I like what I see. I've just never been a fan of remotely hosted things, so it will be good to have my blog on my own server. (Sorry Google! )
Thanks everyone for your feedback.

That's great news Lisa...once you see how relatively easy it is I know your mind is going to be working overtime with all kinds of site/blog ideas. Also, you can use the WordPress "engine" to create static sites as well and not just blogs...which is very cool. Good stuff and I can't wait to see how things turn out...

Boy are you right, Jazzguy. It's nearly 4am Christmas Eve morning and I am sitting here plunking away on my laptop updating my template and designing graphics in PhotoShop. I am so mad at myself for not making the transition sooner. And all I have to say is THANK GOODNESS for the Blogger IMPORT feature. Whew.

Hi Mike,
That's some list you have there, I am sure lots of wordpress user here are going to benefit a lot out of it, got to say wodpress is no doubt a powerful and friendly DIY program. Another upcoming is drupal, not (yet) very friendly to basic users but programmers love it so much for the ease of adding hooks to the core, you can basically build different types of website just by mixing the modules with the core. It has recently secured some initial funding and I think there is going to be a lot of new development to this program in the very near future, got to watch out closely to this one.
P/S: Lisa, so sorry for stealing two non related post in you thread, hope you don't mind.

No problem foong and MikeD what a great list. Thank you! I have already installed several plugins today and am having fun seeing what I can do with them all. So many options so much tweaking and testing.... I love it!
I used to wonder what was so great about wordpress, now I see what I've been missing. Here it is Christmas Eve and I'm supposed to be doing family stuff yet I'm sitting here installing plugins. lol
My biggest fear was the transition and losing my traffic from blogger but I found some great tutorials on setting up a redirect from blogger to WordPress so I'm all set. Whew! What a busy 2 days it's been.
