Welcome to Wordpress Lisa...it's the single most powerfull blogging platform you can have in terms of content management flexibility and web2.0 hooks.

Adsense Deluxe
http://www.acmetech.com/blog/adsense-deluxe/
Lets you put adsense on your site with "tags" instead of adsence code--Put the tag inside a table and you have wrap-around adsense on your site

Spam Protection
http://akismet.com/
This is what Wordpress.com uses

All in one SEO
http://wp.uberdose.com/2007/03/24/all-in-one-seo-pack/
This thing is worth money. You can change the title in the metas to what ever you want and retain the title of each post. Play with it and you will see

Auto hyperlink URLs
http://www.coffee2code.com/archives/...yperlink-urls/
The URL is automatically linked when you use it in a post--just like Website Babble Forum

Google sitemaps
http://www.arnebrachhold.de/projects...aps-generator/
Nuff said...BTW every time the blog is updated the plugin pings Google.

Subscribe to rss widget
http://www.semiologic.com/software/w.../subscribe-me/
There are others but I like this one

Bookmark Me
http://www.semiologic.com/software/widgets/bookmark-me/
There are others but I like this one

Ultimate Tag Warrior
http://www.neato.co.nz/ultimate-tag-warrior/
I don't think it works with WP 2.3 as they have their own tagging system--this is MUCH better

Full text feed
http://cavemonkey50.com/code/full-feed/
If you use the "Read More" option your feeds get cut off...this fixes that.

Wordpress Stats
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/stats/
Stats...not as good as the stuff the host gives you but good for a quick look

Smart update pinger
http://daven.se/usefulstuff/wordpress-plugins.html
Pings as many sites as you put in 2 to 200! WP defaults to ping every time you edit. This pings every time you Publish only Here is a ping list I use

Hi Mike,

That's some list you have there, I am sure lots of wordpress user here are going to benefit a lot out of it, got to say wodpress is no doubt a powerful and friendly DIY program. Another upcoming is drupal, not (yet) very friendly to basic users but programmers love it so much for the ease of adding hooks to the core, you can basically build different types of website just by mixing the modules with the core. It has recently secured some initial funding and I think there is going to be a lot of new development to this program in the very near future, got to watch out closely to this one.

P/S: Lisa, so sorry for stealing two non related post in you thread, hope you don't mind.

No problem foong and MikeD what a great list. Thank you! I have already installed several plugins today and am having fun seeing what I can do with them all. So many options so much tweaking and testing.... I love it!

I used to wonder what was so great about wordpress, now I see what I've been missing. Here it is Christmas Eve and I'm supposed to be doing family stuff yet I'm sitting here installing plugins. lol

My biggest fear was the transition and losing my traffic from blogger but I found some great tutorials on setting up a redirect from blogger to WordPress so I'm all set. Whew! What a busy 2 days it's been.

One other thing for good SEO

Change the permalink structure...

Go to Options/permalink and put this in: /%postname%/

Basically it makes the title of the post first in the head tag then ads the title of the blog after...I think the SEO plugin does this by default that way but i just don't remember.

Well, now I am inspired. I guess I should follow suit.

Lisa, the new blog is great and looks like your re-direct is working perfectly.

Mike, what a list!

Yep, I updated the links to an SEO friendly format yesterday. Thanks!

Theresa: Thanks! I would highly recommend the switch to WP.

I have played around with the import feature on a test WP blog. I am wondering what about the whole duplicate/supplemental content issue if you import your content to your new WP blog.

How does this affect your SEO? Will the search engines see the content on your new site as duplicate?

My blog is relatively new, but has started getting attention from Google. I am nervous about messing that up and want to minimize the ill effects as much as possible.
