Default Tempted to go RSS

Im tempted to create an RSS feed but i do not want the struggle of updating it everytime i create a new article on my website. Is there no way i can get round this? Also i was just wondering where you guys get your RSS and Social bookmarking widget and 'Add to google*Add to Yahoo etc, from.

I know a blog has RSS built in loads of tools etc. But im not sure about a blog yet i dont think id update it enough I post everything directly on my actual site to be honest.

Thanks guys

It's for reasons like this I'd recommend a Content Management System. I'm building my sites with Joomla 1.5 but it is probably overkill for your needs. There is a lot of different CMS software available so look around and see if you can find one that suits you.

I would have to agree, and disagree at the same time. Yes, making just HTML site is easier, you dont have to mess with stuff other people have created and you dont understand, you can do basically anything you want in WYSIWYG editor etc.

But once you get hang of some CMS it makes your life alot easier. For example you dont have to update RSS manually. If you go to vacation for a month you can still write new content from any computer. People have written alot of stuff as plugins for CMS's that would be very hard to implement into regular website, while doing it for that specific CMS takes just few clicks and maybe some copy-pastes and so on.

I have almost finished looking for CMS that suits me the best and wordpress is by far easiest, most practical and most easily customizeable CMS you can get. You can easily convert your current template to Wordpress template aswell

This may sound very stupid, but i like my site's to be my own blood and sweat, therefor cms is someone else's hardwork and i has to include peoples copyright, etc and that is what annoys me about CMS. Is there no other way you guys can think of?

Given that there are hundreds if not thousands of CMS applications out there I find that a little hard to believe.
A CMS could be written in just a few days and it can be as simple as a form to update your homepage.

No it doesn't sound stupid but a little strange to me. Even though I use joomla I have spent around 3-4 hours a day over the last 4 weeks creating a custom template that contains multiple themes and custom components & plugins. This has been a huge amount of work and I'm far from finished, my point is when it's done it will be my creation regardless of the underlying system it runs on. My guess would be that the users of SBI and other systems feel the same way.

But anyways back to your problem. Check out Howto Create an RSS 2.0 Feed to get started.

Hmm, Il change my phrasing a little i have installed the most common ones. Such as PHP Nuke, Evo, Joomla, E107 and some more that I cant think of right now it qas quite a while back.

Im not saying at all that CMS's are useless in anyway they are peoples full remedy in some cases but for this project i feel it will not help me as much.

Thanks for link KazaKhan apreciated buddy.

HamsterPalace: Now that you have an RSS feed you make want to look into FeedBurner (feedburner.com). They allow you to do more things with your feed, and they even provide a link to your "new" modified feed through them.

I notice many people (myself included) use FeedBurner to help manage their feeds.

Agree with Techieguy. I finally got around to setting up my account with them and it's so nice. I had been looking for a nice javascript snippet to promote my latest blog and WB posts and feedburner had what I was looking for all along and you can even customize it if you wish. Not to mention a boat load of other free features.

I'm glad I read this post before posting my similar question. Thank you so much for this Rod and everyone who contributed to this post. I thought I wanted to have a blog attached to a site because I wanted to get the site up and running to add more content later. I realized that after researching everything, I'd eventually run out of site specific information which defeats the purpose of having a blog. I resulted in just creating a RSS feed instead.
