Question When should you start promoting your blog?

How soon should you start promoting the blog associated with your site? Should you wait until you have a good amount of content, or should you start posting when you start creating your site, and and add content to both as you go along? I have a total of 12 pages so far. Is it time for me to start blogging?

I don't see any reason why you can't start promoting your blog as soon as your ready. A good blog with a link back to your main site can only help you with the SE's in the long run. And definitely submit it to sites like www.technorati.com, etc.

Ok, that leads me to another question...
Is is best to use the SBI! blog, or another host like blogger.com? If I do use SBI!, will the blog still link back to my site? And will my site and my blog be considered 2 completely different sites?

I personally like blogger.com over the Site Build It! built-in blog. The SBI! blog does not give you the freedom to blog about anything you want. If I remember correctly it is dynamically tied to any new site updates so anytime you add a new page to your SBI! site, the title of the page and a snippet from that page is automatically added to your blog.

So in other words you cannot just write anything you want like a normal blog. Ken calls it a "Site Blog" since it's tied to the updates of your site. This was mainly done for search engine rankings and I understand why Ken set it up like that but it doesn't give you as much freedom to do as you wish with your blog.

If I had one wish for SBI!, it would be to make the blog feature like more traditional blog hosts.

If you use blogger, than it will be like two separate sites but if you use SBI!'s built-in blog then it will be hosted on the same domain as your SBI! site.

I've used blogger in conjunction with my SBI! site since day 1 and it's worked just fine.

Here's an example of an SBI! blog...

Default Using 2 blogs for 1 site

So basically the SBI! blog is just another Tier 2 page that is automatically added to the navbar. In that case, do you think it would be redundant to use both? For instance, using the SBI! blog to post updates to the main site (and increase search engine rankings), and using blogger to talk about other stuff related to your website topic.
I’m gearing toward using blogger. Like you said, much more freedom.

It depends on what your goal is for the blogger blog. You could use your blogger blog to talk about one thing, and your SBI! blog for site updates.

For example, say you wanted to devote your blog to baby shower games only, then you can use that blog only for topics related to that.

One thing I wish I had done with my blog is made it more focused on a theme rather than just having it be hodgepodge website creation. I always encourage people to use their blog as sort of like a second site that's related to your main site. But it's really up to you.

if you had the time and enough content, would you consider having multiple blogs for multiple themes? For instance, taking your top 3 Tier 2 pages, and creating a blog for each of them.
Or would this be too much?
