Google loves blogs because they are updated frequently so make sure you keep publishing content because if you don't Google won't visit as and spider you as often. Blogs are usually indexed fast, that's true, but the downside to them is that due to the way the content is published on blogs those rankings for certain posts may drop once the post falls off the homepage. So one key is to create more static links and put them on your homepage. Problogger.net's homepage is a great example of this.
Also I see you're using WordPress, great! Make sure you download the All in one SEO Pack and the Google Sitemaps plugin. The SEO plugin will allow you to use a different search-engine optimized title that differs from the title on your page. Say you are writing an article about the benefits of drinking water and you want to get ranked high for the phrase "benefits of drinking water" The SEO plugin will allow you to use that title for the <title> meta tag but you can use something more catchy for your actual page title to get the attention of readers (through RSS feeds, etc.)
The Sitemap plugin creates a sitemap for your blog on the fly and submits it to the major engines automatically every time you add a new post.
