Hi everyone,

I am in the process of setting up a Wordpress blog for the first time. It is hosted on my web host. So far, I've found a theme that I really like and I've installed the theme successfully on my blog. I'm now trying to figure out what widgets to use. Plus, I'm thinking of tweeking the theme a little with different colors, etc. Anyways, that is where you come in. I'd love to see different Wordpress blogs to see what you are using for themes and especially what widgets you are using. Looking forward to seeing your Wordpress blogs.

Chris H.

Hey,

I modified the default theme allot to match the rest of my website. In fact im the only thing the same is the PHP code. You can see the link to my blog in my sig.

The current plugins im using are:

All In One SEO - Amazing plugin, allows you to add a title, meta description and meta tags to each post and page. (Helped my first post get on page 1 of Google! for "The truth about unlimited bandwidth")

Breadcrumb NavXT - Shows a breadcrumb by copying some by pasting some PHP code to your blog where you would like it to display. A breadcrumb shows you the pages you have come from in a line. Much like on this forum where it says

Website Babble Webmaster Forums > Creating a Website > Blogging & RSS (WordPress, Blogger, TypePad, etc.) > Please Show Me Your Wordpress Blog

Sociable - Great plugin shows all the social networking links so it allows your visitors to spread the word about your blog. It also looks really clean and you can turn it off on any post/page.

Newsletter - I would say my second favourite plugin. Allows you to build a mailing list and everything is done automatically.

FeedBurner FeedSmith - Converts every feed link www.yourwordpressblog.com/feed to any other. I use feedburner so it converted it to feeds.feedburner.com/sequencehosting

Contest Burner - A new and unique plugin that come out a couple of weeks ago. It allows you to create a run a contest on Wordpress! It records points which your visitors can get from commenting a post or promoting your website!

I'm new to it all too, but just to show you mine. It's epulseblog.com
I spent like an entire day just configuring the layout and I'm a decent web designer.

Sequencehosting has some good plugin suggestions there; I also use FeedBurner and All in One SEO, and I think I'm going to check out one or two of the others. Some more I would add to most sites are:

Yoast's Google Analytics - adds Google goodness to your site

cforms - a powerful contact form

Similar Posts - adds links to related content on your site at the bottom of each post

Exec-PHP - write PHP code in your posts

And a couple of more specialised ones if you want audio or video on your blog

Audio Player Wordpress plugin - does just that via a little Flash applet

FLV Embed - adds (self hosted) Flash videos to posts using Jeroen's ubiquitous player. I've actually modified this to support high / low quality switching, video streaming and an iPlayer-style video gallery (like this, if anyone's interested).

For me I like to use the following:

WP-DBManager - Allows you to backup, repair, and manage your Wordpress database.

WP Super Cache - Caches your PHP files so they don't execute the PHP code on each request. May speed up your blog and reduces the load on the server.

Bad Behavior - Helps protect your blog from spammers and those that attempt to hack your blog.

You don't have the cURL library installed on your server. Add it yourself if it's your own server or ask your host if you're sharing.

Many. Here are some that Google suggested:

[HowTo] Install Curl in PHP5 and Apache
How to install CURL?
Install -- how to install curl

This isn't something I've done, though: my hosting is shared, so it was done for me there; and on my local Windows box I just ticked the 'yes, I'll have cURL please' box when installing PHP.
