WP.me WordPress short URLs

I am up to date on my WP installation, so why am I not seeing this option when editing a post?

The post says it's only for wordpress.com. Are you self hosted?

If so, I've just seen that there are a number of plugins you can use on your own domain, of which this one seems the closest to WP.me. (Though of course may not be what you're after.)

I guess they cannot implement this for self-hosted sites, for obvious reasons, now that I think of it.

Yes, it's a bit of a shame. I was interested too when I saw your post about it, but no luck. I get that there's a loss of control when including WP.org, but bit.ly, tinyurl, et al. seem to cope OK with any URL.
