Smile Need Advice on WP

I plan to use WP thesis for my affiliate marketing platform.

Question: should I install one of the WP SEO plugins? Has anyone worked with any of these plugins and noticed an increase in traffic/ higher SE rankings?

Thanks.

Hi netrover,

I use the All in One SEO plugin. No real way to know how well it works compared to the do-it-yourself method because I've used it since the beginning. My pages do get indexed quickly, but so do most blogs that are updated regularly and have inbound links from other sites.

Thanks, Lisa. Regarding getting the fastest SE rankings, do you think its better to have a "regular" website with a blog in its sub-directory, or just a straight up blog?

Also, there seems to be a move towards making your blog "look" like a regular website (sometimes called silo structured site). What are your or anyone's thoughts on this?

At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter as much where the blog sits. It's all about link popularity and content. Some have opinions on subdirectories vs. having your blog in your domain but I don't really think there's much difference in the long-run.

Hi Lisa,

Thanks. But if a blog is in a subdirectory of a website, the daily posts will rapidly expand the content (# of pages) of the website. You get the best of both worlds, the static (evergreen, as you call it )content of the website and the ability to keep adding content to it easily via its blog. Don't you think the www.website.com/blog approach is best, in this sense?

When I do searches on just about any niche topic, it seems that the top ranked results are website pages, not blog pages.

Some believe that to be, yes. I personally haven't been able to prove that with my own sites so I cannot confidently say one is better than the other. But if you take two sites...

1) blog.domain.com

2) domain.com/blog

If #1 has more relevant and quality inbound links than #2, then I believe #1 is going to have the greater SE success in the long-run. My blog is on blog.domain.com and I've had no problem getting spidered. Now, would it have done better had I add a folder to my main site 2createawebsite.com/blog I guess I'll never know.

Yes, # of pages on your site is important, but it's not the only thing the engines check for. It's the total picture.
