Default What is RSS?

I am new to blogging. I want to use my blog to promote affiliate products. What exactly is RSS and how is it used?

I think it stands for Rich Site Summary?

And I read on a website that it is used to alert people that subscribe of any changes made to the website/blog?

Not to sure, wait till other babblers(hehe) reply.

Good Luck

Lellieis has it right. It can also stand for Really Simple Syndication. Using RSS, someone can subscribe to your feed and any time you make a new blog post, they will get the headline of the post in their feed reader. There are hundreds of feed readers out there. Firefox has one built it in, there's Bloglines, Google Reader, you name it.

I did a post trying to explain RSS not too long ago (alright, it's been several months).

Hi Cotton,

While I'd love to be able to allow people to refer to relevant content on their own sites, I found out that privilege gets abused. I don't think you were trying to spam or self promote but unfortunately others may take advantage if I start allowing people to link to their own sites. I know you were trying to help but I have to remain consistent with the rules. Thanks.

Ok...thanks you guys. Now I understand it. I guess I have to get some loyal readers to my blog before I can expect the RSS feature to be used.
I appreciate your help! I have lots to learn.
