RSS feeds and Blogs, How do they fit together
I was overhearing a conversation in which someone was talking about RSS feeds and blogging, in what seemed like the same sentence. Can someone tell me what RSS is, and how that can be helpful in using blogs as a marketing tool?
Thanks,
Hubert

Here isa good explaination rss feeds
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS_(file_format)
RSS Feeds help you visitors keep up the site content. All major news website have RSS. With so many new and links being posted everyday, you sometimes miss them. With RSS feed, you can keep track of all updates.
also check out
feedburner.com
i heard you can create RSS feed for your blog suing feedburner.

And in addition to what Webdev said, it's important to note that you can apply RSS to a website too, not just blogging. I just combined these two topics for this forum because you generally see them hand in hand.
You can setup your website to have RSS feeds as well.

Lisa, i have been looking to setup rss for my website. I don't want to write the XML file and update it everytime i add a page.
I looked at feedburner but couldn't find if they support websites. I think its not free. DO you know any website that has RSS setup for websites?

I use Blogger to host my blog and they provide RSS feeds automatically. This is very convenient for when I have to update other sites, such as Technorati with my new content.
Blogger also provides Atom feeds (not really sure what they are as I'm new to blogging), which I then submit to Google as my sitemap. Similar to the RSS feed, the Atom feed is automatically updated so Google will always get a sitemap with all pages to my blog.

Thanks to all of you for your info. TechieGuy, you said Blogger provides RSS feeds automatically. This is without any setup or anything? If not, what do I have to do?
Thanks,
Hubert

For blogger blogs the feeds are as follows:
ATOM
blogname.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default
RSS
blogname.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss

There are differences between RSS and Atom feeds. I don't know much about them so I can't give you more information. I do know that many places that accept RSS feeds also accept Atom feeds.
When I submit my feed, I usually submit the RSS feed URL. I do use the Atom feed for the Google Webmaster Tools as Google accepts the Atom feed instead of a Sitemap.
