I was on Blogger for over a year (June 2007- August 2008).

Blogger is good for those who are just starting out blogging as you can concentrate on your content without having to worry about the more technical stuff.

How does feedburner work? What is the advantage of having it?

Thanks,

Bruce

Feedburner allows you to manage your RSS feed for your website/blog. It is free to use.

When you sign up, you setup your feed using your current RSS feed. You can then do things such as get the total number of subscribers to your feed, customize the look, and include additional links such as e-mail in your feed.

On your site/blog, you would then point your feed links to your FeedBurner feed.

One of the biggest benefits for me was when I switch blog hosts. When I switched, my RSS feed changed. Since I use FeedBurner, I just pointed my FeedBurner account to my new RSS feed and I never had a problem losing subscribers since the FeedBurner RSS feed address never changed.

Default Not losing subscribers

Tech,
You may know remember my name, but I am the guy that said I expect to use blogger for a while to get my feet wet and then start a site. I already use feedburner so I wont have the problem either. Since you just went through this, is there anything else I need to do now that will keep me from losing subscribers when I do start my own page?

If you have chosen a custom domain and use FeedBurner (like you mentioned you did), then you should be fine. Once you move to a self-hosted blog from Blogger, and transfer you domain over, then all your links should still work.

If you remember to change the original RSS feed in FeedBurner, then your move should be transparent to your subscribers.

Once thing to keep in mind, however, is that Blogger truncates long post titles when it creates the permalink. There is a plugin that you can download to change your Wordpress permalinks for those posts to mimic the original Blogger permalinks.

Default One other questions if you do not mind...

I have one other question. (I feel like I am stealing this thread, which I hope isn't the case). How do you handle your meta tags in blogger? Did you manually modify them? I understand meta tags are not as important as they once were, but I would still like to use them.

Download and install the All-In-One SEO pack plugin for WordPress...

http://wp.uberdose.com/2007/03/24/all-in-one-seo-pack/

It will allow you to add a meta description, title and keyword to each post.

If you need help with this, please start another thread about it so we keep this one on topic. Thanks.
