Default Something besides meds...

Hi all. I'm trying to find ideas on what to blog about besides my experience with various medications. I don't think all my readers want to read about that.

My blog is about mental health, but I don't want to fill all my posts about medications.

I'm looking for ideas. I'm not beating myself up for a lack of ideas but I do want to get this blog off the ground and help make it a success.

How would I go about looking up the latest news on my niche, because I know my topic could change from day to day.

I was thinking about doing some posts on how my illness affects me in various situations but to span it out a bit put a different situation in separate posts.

What do you think guys? You are my audience (for now) and I'd like to know what to "write" about...

Thanks in advance,
Andy...

I would recommend using keyword research tools to identify what users are searching for.

The following are some free tools:

http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com
www.keyworddiscovery.com/search.html

You can also use Google trends to get a better estimate.

And here's another

Have you tried lurking at some of the mental health forums and looking at discussions to see what people are talking about? That may help you get some ideas of what people want to know.

You can also subscribe go Google Alerts for a few keywords in your niche. YOu will get daily updates of what has come out on the web for those keywords.

I will find something new and either do a bloglet about it on my SBI site or put it on the list to do a webpage on it later on.

I don't copy...I just get ideas for fresh info that way.

Hi Andy!

One tip for your blog - I think it's great that you talk about your personal experience in order to make yourself real to your readers. However, once you've introduced a thought or subject with information about yourself, transition it into providing helpful information for your visitors.

For instance, in your post about hospitalization - add suggestions that will help others recognize when they may need more help. When you talk about getting out to go to the library - provide a short list of things your visitors can do to get out more. Does that make sense?

I second the recommendation for google alerts. I am using it for news about my website topic. It's great to be able to find news quickly and link to it from my blog. It is a great service for my visitors.

Good luck with your blog!
