Residual Income

I was reading Allan Gardyne's newsletter this morning and he listed three ways he is earning residual income. I always read about how lucrative residual affiliate programs are but I can never find any that I want to promote and that fit my site. Is there a good place to find a list of them? They really seem to be the way to go because they pay you forever!

I would have never quit my full time job if it hadn't been for residual income and that is an absolute must if you want some income stability out here as far as I'm concerned. Even if my sites all died today I would still be able to make a living from residuals and that was my goal before I quit my job.

I read Allan's newsletter too and the only one of the three programs I promote is SiteSell. Haven't tried the others. I like to buy the products before I promote them because doing a review helps boost your sales.

I am always looking for new residual programs. Unfortunately though if you're not in Internet marketing or web hosting it gets a bit more difficult to find residual programs to promote.

Thanks Lisa. I have gone there and reviewed his site. Not many programs that really fit my theme/idea. I haven't joined any of the networks yet but do programs like CJ, Shareasale, etc. have residual incomes?

Unfortunately, I have never come across any merchant through CJ, shareasale, or linkshare that has residual programs.

I have come across several residual programs, but as you would expect, they all require your site visitors to sign up for a membership-type site. These sites also tend to be in or around the internet marketing niche, as Lisa mentioned. For example, a lot of PLR-article providers charge their members a monthly fee for a certain number of articles per month, and they would pay the affiliate a percentage of the monthly fee.

Back in the summer, as you probably know, Clickbank announced that they would carry recurring billing products (i.e. monthly membership products). To search for them, go to Clickbank marketplace, type a keyword, and under "product type" choose "recurring billing". Also, under the Clickbank listings (where they list $/sale, gravity, etc), look for "Future $" - I think I read somewhere that this would be what you would be making on a residual basis.

I think Clickbank need to improve this functionality a little bit still, but it's definitely worth looking into.

I agree. They also need a better product selection.

That surprises me that more merchants don't offer residual/recurring incomes. Think about all the recurring billing... cell phone plans, weight loss plans etc. There are a lot of services that we buy that have recurring billing.

For example, I love electronics (HD, TV technology, etc.) If a company like Tivo, Verizon, etc. would pay me a recurring commission for every customer I refer I would seriously consider creating an affiliate site for electronics. I don't even think Best Buy even has an affiliate program.

I have a friend thinking of creating an electronics site and I remember we did find that Best Buy has an affiliate program but it doesn't pay very well if I remember correctly.

BUT if you think about it... electronics can be expensive so even if their commission rate is low (5% for example) You could earn $150 on a $3,000 Plasma TV. Even if you can't find residual programs in the electronics field, it may be worth going after just because of the higher prices.

Actually, Miles, it does not surprise me that most prominent merchants (Best Buy, Tivo, etc) do not offer recurring commission. They think... why would we share our profits every month when we don't have to?

Most affiliates are happy to make the one-time commission and try to replicate the sale the following month.

Best Buy used to have an affiliate program through BFAST, which was recently switched over to Commission Junction (commission is 1 to 3%). Someone bought a printer once through my Best Buy affiliate link, and my commission was a whopping $2

Usually electronics have a really small % so the key is to promote big ticket items, like Lisa mentioned.

Incidentally, TiVo has an affiliate program through CJ. Their commission is not too bad, in my opinion.
