If you aren't approved for an affiliate program...
is it possible to still obtain a banner (none commission, of course)? Or, would it be best to just link to the site?

If you aren't approved for the specific affiliate program I am pretty sure that you can find a similar one. I don't see the point in putting up a banner just because. Did you get declined by an affiliate program that's why your asking?

Actually, I have two situations. In one situation, I was declined and in the other situation the company doesn't have an affiliate program. But you're right, it would probably be better to just look into their competitors. I've already been approved for one of them, the other says the application is pending.

If possible...
If possible, try to get the affiliate program to tell you the reason for denial. In your case it could be well because of the newness and smaller number of posts. Or the amount of traffic if they check that.
If you know this you will be able to know if you may be able to reapply successfully at a later time.
In any case it is to your advantage to learn this so that you can use that information in your planning and dealing with others.

Yeah, just weigh your options. There are tons of affiliate programs out there who approve you in a matter of seconds.

Hello everyone,
I am in the process of looking for affiliate programs right now as well. I was disapproved by one vendor. The email said it was likely due to one or more of four reasons. One of the reasons was low traffic. That is the reason why I expect I was declined from this particular vendor. I was invited to reapply in 15 days though. Since than I've been approved by three vendors in a couple of affiliate programs. These vendors I think will be a really good match to my website and I feel good promoting there products. To make a long story short, if you have your heart set on a particular affiliate program I'd email them and ask them why your affiliate application was disapproved. You could than either rectify the problem and reapply or ask them if they would reconsider approving you.

I can understand newness and the lack of web content being an issue, thanks.

Bre-Did they actually email you and tell you that you were not approved? I was wondering because I have also submitted my site and have not heard anything. It has been a while and I felt that if they were not going to approve me they would have told me.

Through a Commission Juction program, you have to log into your account to find out if you were approved or not. But for one of the companies I was interested in, yes, I got an email saying I wasn't approved.

That happened to me one time on CJ and I e-mailed the affiliate manager and told them about my site and traffic. They apologized and got me into the program immediately. If this is the program you think you can do well with and really want to get into, it may be worth trying to contact the company personally. Sometimes they just look at your eCPM number on CJ and decline immediately, but if you contact them and show them the potential of your site, they may let you in.

What Lisa basically told them....... "Do you know who I am" lol jk. But I would never think of contacting the affiliate manger. I would figure that it was a lost cause and I would maybe try again later and hopefully they would accept me into the program.

Commission Junction actually shows the affiliate manager's phone number and address. I did leave a message for one particular affiliate manager but I wasn't asking to be reconsidered, I was asking if they were somehow connected to another company that I was interested in promoting as when I googled one, the other came up. Although I still haven't received a call back but the the next day I got approved by the company I submitted the application for, as well as, 2 other companies that are affiliated with them. Not sure if it was a coincidence or what they do all the time.

Lisa is right (of course) when I first started to add some affiliate links to my retail site one Linkshare company declined me. I sent them an e-mail telling them I was quite surprised to be declined since my average customer was very similar to theirs and while it was quite awhile ago I think I may have also dropped the name of one or two of their competitors who had approved me and sure enough I got a lovely e-mail back requesting I reply and that I would be approved immediately and I was. So it never hurts to inquire if you really want to get in.
