Default tips on adsense ads positioning

Hey attackdepression,

I was going through your site today and read couple of you articles thoroughly. I enjoyed reading you articles and i love your simplistic design. Its is really clean.

Well, this thread is not about design or writing content but i wanted to post my experience i had so far with adsense ad placements and how it could effects your earning and clicks. This is intended for everyone who is new to adsense and i'm quite new to it myself as well.

I'm not sure how your adserse earning are, weather you're having success or not. But i just wanted to share some tips i found helpful.

I found that, placing adsense in your main content/articles generates the most clicks. For example, placing an ad block in the beginning of your article is most profitable. It could be before your article heading or immediately after few lines of your article but NOT right underneath your article heading. i think google prohibits this.

Another good placement is right at the end of your article. Most user when they finish reading an article they generally look around for something relating to it. Their eyes wonder around the page looking for related links. So putting ads at the end of page also yields strong CTR.

The most ineffective google adsense position for me is been the right hand side panel. I had ads displaying there in the beginning and didn't yield any clicks and plus ads placed outside your content appear least relevant to your topic, hence to diverting users from clicking on it.

Here is a helpful layout i found at google help pages which illustrates good ad positions for any website.

BTW, i'M no adsense expert. Using the tips above, i began to see some clicks. I went from no clicks a day to now few clicks a day.

You success will depend on the amount of the targeted traffic you get, your niche/topic of your site, your design, your content and most importantly how relevant the ads are meaning how closely they are related to your topic.

Hope these tips help.

This is great advice. Thanks webdev. You know I've never really played with my placement much due to lack of time but this is great advice. What about changing the color? I've heard that's made a big difference but when I tried it, I didn't see much of a change.

I think colors make a big difference as well. You should try to keep the ads links the same color as your website links. Keep the ad description text and the ad URL color the same your content color. I read somewhere that works the best. Take a look at my site to get an idea.

I like blending my ads in with my Web site. It makes the entire site look better if you keep the colours consistent, at least in my opinion.

So true Webdev! When I redesigned my site, I added it to the end of most articles and my conversion rate has almost doubled.
