There is a feature in Google that allows you to restrict certain ads. You simply enter the domain name of the ad and all ads from that domain will be blocked.

Under "Adsense Setup" select "Competitive Ad Filter" and you can select the domains you don't want to show.

I think the following tips may be useful

1) Check if there are ads in that niche. You may use the adsense preview tool to check the ads. If there are no ads that are relevant, the ads displayed will not be relevant and so the CTR is going to be low.

2) Add keywords to the title of the page, the url, meta tags and the body. The adsense bot crawls these keywords and triggers ads using these. If you add more keywords, you may get relevant ads.

3) Edit the contents on the page appropriately. You may use the adsense preview tool to check the ads or put

google_adtest = "on";

in the code to make sure that these impressions or clicks do not count.

4) You may also consider blocking the ads that are not relevant but are making bids on keywords related to your site. You can do this in the Adsense panel.

i think you are right there, but you cant alter the Adsense Adcode, and thus cannot put "adsense_test=on" in it directly.

This is an exceptional case. This was the suggestion that the Adsense support gave me when I asked them about testing adsense ads.
