Default Earnings from adsense...

I started a blog in December for multiple reasons. One of which was to put ads on it and get a feel for the profitability for ads in my niche(teaching math). My blog recently got picked up by a forum newsletter and I got some really good targeted traffic the last few days. Thus I have gotten some adsense clicks recently and have an idea of what I am earning per click. Can I expect that to remain constant in my niche? If I continue to get more clicks will google put higher quality ads on my site and give me a higher earning per click?

I know talking actual numbers is taboo, but I was wondering if you can expect to see an increase in how much each click pays you?

Well, there are at least 2 factors that can influence your Adsense earning. One is dependent on what Google would do, while the other would depend on what the niche does.

As far as Google, I do not think they place higher paying ads on a good-performing website. This, as far as I know, is strictly dependent on the content matching software/algorithm Google uses. Now, how much they give you per click depends on your click through ratios, I think, but it would be hard to predict how much your earning would increase per click, because I don't think Google releases this kind of information. Further, if the niche becomes more competitive, Adwords users may start to bid higher for the same keywords, so your earnings could increase due to that. All-in-all, it would be almost impossible, in my opinion, to predict future Adsense performance.

Now, as far as what the niche does... do you think the interest in your lens is seasonal? i.e. do you think it picks up around the beginning of each semester or would you think that they will be popular year round? This could also affect the amount of traffic coming to your lens, and ultimately affecting the clickthroughs on your Adsense ads.

I hope this answers your question, at least partially.

Great answer, Sherif. I agree there are really too many variables involved to determine something like that. As Sherif said, the only surefire way of earning more is if your niche became more competitive and drew in more AdWords advertisers. The keyword bids for certain keywords in your niche will likely go up, thus earning you more per click.

Congrats on the additional traffic burst, though. That's always nice.

Thank you for your kind remark, Lisa.

MrT, in my haste to answer your question, I completely neglected to congratulate you on getting your lens picked up by a newsletter (thanks for the reminder Lisa ). This is the ultimate test, in my opinion, whether your lens or page contains quality content. Great Job!

Default Thanks for the responses...

I am trying to figure out how to best monetize the website I am creating. I have begun looking at some affiliate opportunities and plan on creating some things myself to sell. I think I have an idea and a marketing plan that will enable me to create a very successful(traffic wise) website debuting in the fall. The problem is the "math" niche isn't very competitive per click. Most of my website traffic will be high school students and teachers...with maybe some college students. Is it possible to use a program that targets ads at an age range rather than a niche?

A Math site is a great idea. Just remember as far as your target market goes, high school students generally have low buying power. I found that out when I had a site geared toward teens once. Unfortunately AdSense wasn't available back then so it was hard for me to make much money from the site.

Perhaps you can look for some scholarship/loan/education affiliate programs on some of the big networks like CJ and LinkShare since your audience will be going to college soon. They pay pretty well.

Absolutely! there are quite a few of them!

Also, you mentioned that you were thinking about creating/compiling your own products to sell. Lisa mentioned that students (or teenagers) in general may have a low buying power... Have you thought about targeting new/inexperienced teachers? Maybe some are looking for different ways to explain certain math topics to their students. Just a thought

Default I am coming at this from a little different perspective...

I am definitely planning on creating the website. My goal is to create I great math website. However, I would like to approach it intelligently so that I can maximize the revenue(however small).

I am signed up with CJ and have perused what they have to offer. There are some good programs for online colleges, so that might be something I look into soon.

Is there any competition to adsense out there?

To go along with the newsletter I just got an email from someone at the largest math teachers organization asking if she could submit my blog to their news bulletien. I would say that goes out to at least 20000+ people. It is supposed to be sent out in July...so that could be a fun month traffic wise

I just saw your response Sherif. The material I create would be definitely be targeted towards teachers.

Thanks for the help!

MrT,

I just saw this on Clickbank... http://www.mathfoundation.com/ and thought of you

The Clickbank merchant ID is photoedit i.e. if you would like, you can promote it using YourClickbankID.photoedit.hop.clickbank.net

If you don't have a Clickbank ID, you can get one at http://www.clickbank.com
