Default Why does google adsense require you to enable cookies on your browser? is that to

monitor whether you are clicking on the ads yourself

(not that I'd do that)

and, how does one enable cookies on their browser anyway?

thanks

another question, what is the effect of enabling cookies on a browser...does this mean that you can be spied on by webmasters/websites

mine is currently set to medium, and i'm on internet explorer...adsense it telling me to enable cookies...can i leave it at medium, or MUST it be changed to low?

adsense says that the cookies are for added security and functionality, but it seems to me that they (cookies) allow thrid party sites to be intrusive

Martin,

it depends. Cookies can be used for positive or negative purpose. Cookies are created when you visit a site (depending on the site).

They store information such as your login info (so next time you come to site you don't have to login). Google does this.

They store information such as your suffering behavior. I think Amazon does this. Amazon stores what kind of books/products look at and store that information in a cookie. They use this information to make related recommendations to you. Ever noticed how they know what books you looked at previously..

Cookie is a just a text file that is created by the site and sits on your computer.

If google is asking for your to enable cookies, you can be sure that it is safe because Google is reputable company and i'm sure they will protect your info.

I don't recommend IE. Why? because IE is not safe. It has tons of security issues. I recommend Fierfox. Majority of tech savvy people will recommend this browser. It is free, safer than IE and tons of cool functionalities.

I'm not sure how to this in IE but in Firefox you can enable cookies for a particular site. For example, to be safe you can tell Firefox to disable cookies but only enable them for google.

I believe that this has something to do with the smart pricing thing. Once the user clicks on the ad and enters the site, I think Google monitors his/her activities for any purchase or sign up or the duration of visit using the cookie(s). If none of these happen frequently, the site on which adsense ads are being displayed gets smart priced.

This is how I think it works.
