Default Clicked Own Google Adsense Accidentally

Hello,

An interesting thing happened today. I accidentally clicked on a Google Adsense on my blog. Shortly afterwards, my Google Adsense report showed the click, but it did not show any money earned from the click. My conclusion is that the Google Adsense database must have my IP address in its database, showing it as an invalid click. Google Adsense must have software that lets them know when someone has clicked onto an Adsense ad on their own website or blog. I was going to report to Adsense that I accidentally clicked on a Google Adsense ad in my blog. However, in the Help section faqs it said that it is not necessary to report accidentally clicking on your own ad. I just hope that my Google Adsense account doesn't suddenly get closed as a result of this.

Hey Chris,

You should be fine, Google understand that some people will accidentally click an ad, if it is not a reoccurring thing they will ignore it.

However I don't think Google would have your IP blocked as with most internet connections you have a dynamic ip address. This means that every time you connect to the internet or refresh your connection (if it is always on) you are given a new IP. So if Google blocked it then someone else who gets assigned that IP address later would be blocked.

I would probably say that they checked their cookie on your computer and tracked that your computer has been logged into that AdSense account. Something along those lines.

Thats just my thoughts anyway, I know you didn't really need to know everything I said but hope you enjoy it in some way.

Thanks Scott for the reply. That actually makes sense that Google probably didn't block my IP address. As you said, if they did this someone else with the same IP address could be blocked later. I was logged into Google Adsense when I accidentally clicked onto the Adsense ad, so you are probably right that Google identified me through the cookie. I'm sure with the large amount of click fraud Google has methods to identify Google Adsense members clicking onto their own ads. I later read the Google Adsense faq's about accidentally clicking on your own ads, and they basically said that they understand that people accidentally click on their own ads. The faq also stated that it is not necessary to contact Google Adsense about clicking onto your own ad accidentally, so this is good to know. By the way, I see your last name is Cameron - that is my Grandma's maiden name. I have lots of relatives with the lsat name of Cameron.

i just did the same thing (by accident) - adsence showed that the click was made but no earnings came from it (rightfully so)

but i was just wondering how often do you think google checks your site for content and that the rules are being followed?

I think that Google keeps a really close eye on new people that have signed up for Google Adsense, to help prevent click fraud.
