Default Dismal Results With Google Adsense

Hello everyone,

My web site Internet Security 101 has been up and running since the beginning of the New Year. I am now receiving around 64 unique visitors a day and I'm finally starting to see some search engine traffic. I've have been trying to monetize my site since January with Google Adsense. However, my monetization results have been very poor to say the least - I'm not even making enough with Google Adsense to pay for my web hosting and domain name. I am feeling a bit discouraged. Is my results for the amount of traffic I receive normal? What am I doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Chris H.

Hi Chris

With only 64 visits per day I am not shocked your AdSense revenue is low. Just to give you an idea. My traffic has nearly doubled since last year and my AdSense revenue is about the same. So the economy has something to do with it (advertisers spending less) and people are becoming more aware of the ads (lower click thru ratios). Of course it's going to vary from niche to niche but you really probably won't start seeing worthwhile income from AdSense until you have a few hundred uniques per day.

So don't give up. Just keep working on traffic and your income will increase.

yes you need lot more traffic like Lisa said.

but i just want to mention that for me, it really made a huge difference in earnings when I changed all my ads to large rectangles without borders, so it blends in more with the page, but maybe its just me

Thanks so much Lisa and charcoalandpencil for your wisdom, advice, and encouragement.

That is very interesting charcoalandpencil about having an increase in click-thru's when you converted your ads to rectangles. I have heard from other bloggers and webmasters that you have more click-thru's if the ads blend in with your web site/blog and are located within articles and posts.

Thanks again Lisa and charcoalandpencil for taking the time and energy to reply to my post. Have a great weekend!

Chris H.

Good point. Experimentation is key. I started putting ads along the right side of my YouTube videos and my CTR has gone up about a percent since I've done that. Definitely experiment with your ad unit shape and colors. You may be surprised at how much of a difference that will make.

Like lisa said, you need a whole lot more traffic. Also test different adsense positions and formats
