Default PayPal Donate Button

I've seen other webmasters put "donate" buttons on their websites. Would you ever donate or have you ever thought about donating to any site that offers such a feature? I personally think it's kind of cheesy but I see so much of it, I wonder if people get a lot of donations.

Hi Max,

It depends on the nature of the site. If it's a site that is truly, truly helpful and a place I visit often then I may consider giving. But if I just visit a site once or twice and notice it I usually don't give it a second thought.

And of course if it's a charity-type site then I think a donate button may be useful, but not sure if the average webmaster would benefit much from it.

i have donated before to a site. The site is helpful and i return to it every now and then. The guy did it out of fun so didn't hurt donating $5 dollars to the site

That's great to know, webdev, I'll be emailing you when I get my donate button up. (only kidding!)

I was just browsing today and noticed the popular joomla site has a donate button. Now that's an example of a great use. When you offer something valuable for free (or a fun site like webdev mentioned), often times people don't mind giving.

Being a poor starving high-schooler, I can't donate very often. Unless you consider it to "donate" to make all those silly ads I did for affiliates a year or so ago. :P

LOL, Shaun. Here, here. I'm too broke to donate right now.

I agree with everyone, to justify yourself to have a donate button I would say you have to offer something out like great quality information or perhaps an e-book a range of music who knows?!

Or obliviously if you are in need of donations for a certain project like a charity or fund raising activity then I would say its quite reasonable.
