    Hello,

What problems have you been having with PayPal? There are many other payment gateways such as:

    2checkout
    Alert Pay
    Quantum Gateway
    Google Checkout

Thumbs down Paypal keeps sending back payments

Paypal keeps letting people and their banks ripp me off. I run several dating sites, and people will pay for a premium account so they can contact others, then they will contact whoever they want, or spam everyone, and then tell paypal/bank that it was an unauthorized payment then paypal ALWAYS sends their money back even though i contest it. WORST THING IS when i contest it and lose (ALWAYS DO, and not because i do not have EXCELLENT PROOF) they send the asshole that signed up his money back and then CHARGE ME $10.00 !!!!! I HATE PAYPAL !! Im surprised paypal is a .com and not a .ORGanized crime !!!

I see your problem. It's a huge problem because most of the payment gateways choose to protect their customers over their merchants because it's probably easier to do so. I used Google Checkout when I first started web hosting and my first "customer" used a stolen credit card so the owner issued a charge back once he found out. Google charged me 10 for this even though they said in their email that if I choose refund the customer (which I did) I will not be charged.

It's strange because since using PayPal I haven't had any charge backs although I have read other stories like yours.

I have heard that using an off-shore payment gateway is a good idea because they generally protect their merchants more than a US company.

Perhaps you should look at creating or outsoucing a script that will find such emails or limit the amount people can send so you find them before they do any damage and issue a charge back?

I wish you the best of luck!

I'm afraid I don't know any offhand. I read about this a couple of days ago on another forum. That sounds like a good idea. You may also want to research the best payment gateway as far as siding with the merchant goes.

    Thumbs up GOOD IDEA

Yea, just searching for best one that sided in favor of merchant is a GREAT IDEA. I think your right, that is the ticket. Maybe even BOTH. Seach offshore and best to side with merchant.

Thanks again for the good advice,

    James

If you're a startup with less than USD30k in monthly sales, then go for 2CO. That said, 2CO's 5.5% + $0.45 per transaction, might be hard on merchants with low margins.

Once your business has grown, try Authorize.net. They're stable and easy to use. As far as cost goes, they charge a monthly gateway fee of $20.00 and a $0.10 transaction fee.

People are more likely to buy if they recognize the name, thats why PayPal and Google Checkout work so well. They are both recognized brands that people trust with their information.

Try a recognized one and a offshore one beside each other and see what percent of people use each one before making a final decision.
