I would hope they are making money off more than just Google AdSense because $800/month is not enough of a cushion as far as I'm concerned.

Just like stocks, you need to diversify your income portfolio. I didn't quit my job until I had more than tripled my regular 9 to 5 salary. While AdSense is a nice contributor to my income, it's certainly not the only thing. I belong to 15-20 different programs and a few of them pay lifetime residuals so even if my sites died today, I'd still earn from my existing customer base.

I've read so many horror stories of people quitting their jobs when they matched their 9 to 5 salary. That's too risky. I waited at least 2-3 years even after I matched my salary because I wanted to make sure I had enough of a cushion and residual income coming in before calling it quits.
