Just an idea. While I would definitely get a dot com address to start, I would suggest getting a dot net or dot info and make that the "real" name, what you use to promote yourself. That will give you a better information image, as compared to a marketing site. At your host you can just redirect the dot com address to, say a dot info. That way it won't matter if/when people type in dot com.
