Okay, here goes.....
There will be content on the site also. I plan a mini blog on each category page and it will have a read more that will go to either a blog page or a content page. For example, on the electronics category page, the mini blog planned is a 31 day rotating tip. It will have a read more link to a page with all the tips and more. The mini blog might have a "have you seen this" note or talk about the newest trend. I plan to make the mini blogs RSS feeds also.
My background is home dec, so I'll have plenty to talk about for many of the category mini blogs. I also can't help myself when it comes to helping people decide what to purchase, so they will be able to email for advice. My son is the techie in our family, so he'll be answering questions and taking care of the electronics section. I've thought about a forum, but don't know just yet. There are so many problems with self promo and spamming these days. What do you think?
I plan a page on eBay and auctions in general and how and when to use them.
I'm also a huge fan of tell a friend and add to favorites. Have you heard of addthis? If so, what do you think of them? Should I just create a page similar to theirs on my own site? Then I can track addto traffic directly, right? And newsletters, of course.
I plan to have links ready for MySpace, Facebook and such users to add to their pages. One thing I haven't mentioned is on the user created favorite shops page, they'll be able to add notes next to their shops. They'll be able to keep track of shopping finds or share them with other people if they like.
It's really a shopping community but I don't plan on having users be able to leave messages on other users pages or add images or music of their own. Who knows maybe that will come later in a very limited format. I'm not trying to create a MySpace for shoppers.
I'll have links to hotmail, aol, and yahoo messengers to make it easy for them to talk to friends.
Also, 5% of the revenue generated will be donated to charities chosen by the shopper community. People will be able to set up their page and select a charity. Then hopefully, they'll tell friends to start their shopping here and add to the donation.
Well, that's all I can think of right now. Oh wait, I also have 600 on my newsletter list from my previous business that will help get me started. I got traffic to that site by joining forums and being moderator of a few and doing link exchanges and such. Net traffic sure has changed in 6 years!
What do you think?
