Well Dreamweaver has its own built in FTP, I cant really assist unless I see it however you could try using an external FTP program such as FileZilla

Dreamweaver is a very useful program, try it for a little bit longer at least and get to use its true power, I personally don't use its built in FTP as it lacks so many features such as changing 'permissions' etc.

So my advice would be to get an external, or if your really not satisfied try Coffee Cup they have lots of 'Free stuff' including a fully function html site builder.
