You can use http://creativecommons.org/ to protect your work, I've been looking at when i was viewing TechieGuy website and its such a great idea so thanks man.

Someone once copied one of my templates and I still had all the images hosted on my account so i was able to track him down. I found him threatened to take him to court and sue a lawsuit against him, when I wasn't at all, and he removed it promptly. This is what worked for me a little unofficial digging but I'm not saying its a guarantee!
