I have seen articles reused on other websites without the author listed. But the articles on websites such as articlecity.com and ezinearticles are free, and you are allowed to reuse the content on your own site. But, when you think about, the original author will usually get credit for their writing because if you reuse info on the web, the search engine will recognize that as duplicate content, and your site will not get as much attention from the SE's when compared to the site with the original content.
