Hi Bill,

I am always very leery of giving people specific information about my timeline because people have a tendency to use my info as a benchmark or compare their progress with mine. This can be very misleading because times have changed. I could tell you exactly how long it took me to start getting traffic in Google, but the problem is that was seven years ago and things have changed and they keep changing all the time... especially search technology.

So, there is nothing wrong with being curious about others' success. Just be careful how you process the information. If 10 people reply and tell you it took them two years to get steady traffic from Google, that may sway you into thinking one way. But maybe they weren't marketing their site effectively. Maybe it will only take you 3 months.

And let's say it takes your site 6 weeks to get indexed when it took someone else 3. Does it mean it's poor? Average? I'm not sure we can confirm that based on a few replies. There are just always so many variables involved.

Sorry to ramble... I just always caution people to be careful with how they absorb information like this. If you're just curious... that's fine but don't use for comparisons with your progress.
