Default questions to consider

I don't want to get too far over my head here, but as I read your post I am wondering if a blog format will work very well for it. Wordpress has lots of features and a lot of folks use it for CMS and the like, but with the content you want and the fact that much of what you want needs to stay up (like the calendar, etc.), the dated, journal type setup may not be as useful as a static site. The same goes for basic informational content such as services offered.

A second thing to consider is that with interactive features such as you mention you might want to go with php right from the beginning so you will not have to convert later. php writes html to the website so really you don't have to know much php or use much to set up your site that way.
