I don't have a problem with small fonts on a blog, at least until my eyes start to go. In my current layout I am using em as a measurement which doesn't allow me to specify a certain font size in points, but apparently is meant to scale better.
For my new layout I am staying with points. I believe the text is 9pt, which isn't too small, then again everyone has their own opinion.

You really have to take into consideration the number of people in the world with bad eyesight. XD Furthermore, people don't like to read on a screen that much--making the text too small is a big mistake. It's better your text be too big than too small--trust me.
For verdana and arial, 10 pt. Definately. -firm nod-
