Yes you can. You should narrow it down more than just food and recipes. For example you could do chocolate cake recipes or appetizer recipes. The more narrow your focus is, the easier it will be to get targeted traffic. Use tools like Google Adwords Keyword tool to research what people are searching for in this niche. As far as making money, you could probably refer and recommend kitchen related products (cookware, etc.) and earn commissions.
Just spend some time thinking about what topic you want to focus on (narrow it more) and who you want to target. Then brainstorm for the kinds of products you could refer/sell from your site. That's the place I'd start.
