I thought of changing after seeing a T-mobile commercial where they offered 1000 anytime minutes and unlimited weekend/nite minutes for $10 more than my Cingular plan that gave 450 rollover anytime and 5000 weekend/nites.

When I got the cingular plan I was using less than 300 anytimes a month and building rollover. A few months ago I went up to around 1000. I use my cell for USA long distance, some at home and some while out. When my rollover minutes run out if I use my current plan as I have been it will probably cost me a fortune on overtime minutes.

So there it is. What would you advise?

Thanks,

from the looks of things, i would suggest either sprint or verizon. Nowadays you should be able to get 1000 mins with any of the major carriers for around $45-55/month. All of them should come with UNLIMITED night and weekend minutes. Sprint however is the only carrier that has your N&W minutes starting at 7pm instead of 9pm like the other carriers. Sprint also includes calling to other sprint customer for free(no using of minutes). I cant really speak on coverage because its all relative to where you live.

To get the most bang for your buck, wait until you cingular contract is complety up and then go into a sprint or vzw store and get ready to haggle. Dont go to a heavy traffic store. if at all possible go to a store that is smaller in size(usually the slowest). Let the rep thats going to help you know that you are a current cingular customer and you want to switch TODAY. This gets the reps eager! pick out a phone you like and take not of what the price is w/ a 2yr contract. also see if the price listed is after any rebates. You should be able to find a good quality phone for approx $50-100

The reps do not get paid on the price of the phone, they get commissioned on the "new activation" regardless of the phone price. Bottom line, they need you to sign that contract. You should be able to haggle any phone under $100 down to free.

Side note: go on the last day of the month if possible. District managers are always pushing for that last little bit at the end of the month and 95% of the store managers and district managers will discount more on that day than any other day. Sales reps get paid 20% commission of every accessory you buy. Use that to your advantage, if they offer you the phone for cheap with catch being you have to buy "x" amount off accessories, DO IT! then return the accessories you dont need the next day. If you play hard ball, they will crack! They need you waaaaaayyyy more than you need them, trut me!
