Default Yahoo Directory and DMOZ

Okay Okay, I know it's probably been posted and asked like 1000 times but first of all.

What's up with DMOZ? Every time I check it seems like it's the same as it was 3 years ago? I know the links are valuable and it's edited by volunteers, but is it just an afterthought or what?

Yahoo directory costs $300 a year? or $300 to review and $300 a year? Regardless I don't understand.

Just how important will the link be, because if it helps my site go up in the search results, I could probably make $300 in a couple days from it.

Does anyone have their personal success story with Paying or getting listed in the Yahoo (or DMOZ) directory or has anyone experienced a dud?
