Nowadays we must go the social-networking rout and build relationships/credibility. Well, the latter has always been a must. It's just Rich Shefron once make a great point Web 2.0 makes it easier for folks to communicate. Thus, they can either make you or break you via word of mouth.
Still no prof that link-building is dead. Just a lot of folks I hear have a gut-feeling Google frowns upon Reciprocal and forum links(exception would be if there contextualized of course).
I remember my dad once told me of a guy who wrote an e-book titled The Death of Internet Marketing. Now I'll bet he's cringing, knowing he was dead wrong. But it did sell at the time(2005).
