Yes, you must renew it every year, although from what I've seen (I joined this January), they often offer specials throughout the year for you to renew your subscription at a cheaper price, like for $100 or $200 instead of $300.

You can also move all of your content to another host, but you would have to start all over in terms of uploading the content. I hope I said that right!
